WORK GOAL PROGRAM RIO DE JANEIRO

Getting their first job involves a high degree of emotion to many people.
It´s just like scoring a goal in the last game of the World Cup! The Work Goal Program helped 130 young persons and adults (between 16 and 45 years of age) in Caju District and its surroundings in Rio de Janeiro. They received education and professional skills in order to take part in the market, experiencing social, economic and cultural transformations. The developed activities led them to fully exercise the citizenship. Their presence in formal work positions correspond to 63% of the participants.

The Work Goal Program was evaluated in 2015, counting on the participation of both students and educators. The feedback led to an impact upon the program´s qualification, as it indicated that the evaluators´ main demands had been duly covered.

In view of the young people´s difficulty to carry on studying and attending professional courses, as some of them are urged to generate income to the family and others are without directive and need to be encouraged, the project´s team implemented actions to reduce the participants´ dropout (a scenario that affected the previous year´s program).

New strategies were established to approach the young people and the adults to avoid the dropout, viewing the successful completion of the studies. The importance of daily interaction with the young people was evident to decrease the dropout rate (which corresponded to 45% in 2014). The year of 2015 presented a rate of 26%, reaching the project´s target.

“The workgroup discussions and the different opinions made me more mature. The integration with the teachers, the awareness regarding responsibility in the work environment, made me consider that I have to improve in many ways. A very important experience that I will always remember is the friendship developed during the course. The teachers were also very important in this journey. I am grateful for the care and patience dedicated to all of us.”

Danielle Alves Santiago, 19 years of age, High School Graduate, 6 months in FGL

“Developing the Market and Workability workshop in the Work Goal Program was a very enriching experience.Approximately 60 young people, with different professional targets, linked by a single and common characteristic: the focus on qualification. In terms of career, there is always something that we can do to reach our goal. Sometimes it is better to follow the same path, there are other occasions that require different options. In any situation, the acquired knowledge is fundamental. The education provided by the Work Goal Program is valuable concerning any chosen profession. I am grateful for the opportunity of sharing our knowledge and also learning with the participants”.

Lívia Ferreira - Manpower, partner of Work Goal Program.

“A mix of culture, sports, social interaction, library, that´s very good...We were not used to have any of this in our community. I took part in the Work Goal Project and learned a lot, thanks to it, I have a job! I am happy to see it growing and helping our community even more. My daughter likes visiting the library, taking books home and doing painting activities. I hope that the integration among parents, children and the community continues forever!”
