Audio-visual, theatre, graffiti and education focused on work are also part of people´s youth period. This program is dedicated to students from 14 to 21 years of age at Vila Albertina region´s public schools, in the North Zone of São Paulo. The project that deals with these themes is supported by two action axels: “Arts & Communication“ and “On the Way to Workability”. It contributes to the adolescents´ complete development, strengthening their identity and self-esteem.
The Arts & Communication axel introduced several workshops (graffiti, audio-visual and theatre) in the off-class hours at a regional school, Escola Estadual Doutor Alberto Cardoso de Mello Neto. All the activities are directed to the development of criticism and ability to express itself, via artistic and communication skills. Open dialogue is essential with this type of public, therefore, the educators have round talks in every activity in order the students look at and listen to each other, intending to understand the demands, anguishes and concerns that are part of this self- development stage.
Group conviviality is valued by means of cooperative work, the individual limitations are duly respected and each one´s progress is always fostered.
The group´s participants expand the creative process, the socialization of knowledge, and their integration with the educators. The workshops are satisfactorily attended by 77% of the young people, that make their learning and accomplishments very visible.
“The Way to Workability” develops actions of personal education for the labourmarket. The projects were done in three workshops: Initiation to Carpentry, Back-office work, Bakery and Patisserie, besides actions developed with several institutions of the artistic area: Instituto Criar, Festival Internacional de Documentários, Mostra Internacional de Cinema de SP, Museu da Pessoa e Projeto Aquarela Unilever.

“I started studying Theatre as a way to be more extrovert and less shy. The idea of meeting new persons and being more at easy sounded wonderful. I not only felt more at easy but also learned how to trust some people. After that, I am firmer about my purposes, besides listening to people around me. I learned how to work in group, being a cell of a unit. I understood the importance of communicating even being totally silent, by understanding people using regards and gestures. I am taking that to my personal life since the beginning of the year and it has been an instrument of freedom.”
Natália Alves Garrido, 2nd grade of High School
“During the carpentry course I learned many things besides carpentry skills, I developed life experiences. I have new friends and got closer to good friends. I had an excellent teacher, always helpful in the activities, giving advices that we will remember during our whole lives. The activities were cool, such as, dealing with machines, practicing tasks with limes and drill, making stools, mini chest-of-drawers, etc.”
Larissa Ap. Pereira da Silva, 18 years of age, 2nd grade of EE Alberto Cardoso High School
“Senac´s course concerning back-office work helped me a lot and represented different experiences. By attending this course I learned how to present myself better at job interviews, how to interact better with people, not bringing my personal life to my professional life. I believe that we should have more courses like that, to provide a better future to people, in general.”
Claudicéia Carolina da Silva Barbosa, 17 years of age, 3rd grade of EE Alberto Cardoso High School.
“Bakery and patisserie course has been a unique and wonderful experience, things that did not make part of our daily activities are now more than essential to our future. This course provides a base to start a career involving gastronomy, for example. It also gave us the opportunity to see life from a different perspective, a new and fantastic regard, showing many opportunities and new challenges. We are grateful for this learning opportunity, as well as for the open doors that show the path to a better future”.
Milena Santos Oliveira, 17 years of age, 3rd grade of EE Albino Cesar High School
