Fundação Gol de Letra is a civil non-profit organization established in 1998, fostered by the dream of former football players Rai and Leonardo, who wanted to contribute to the education of children and young people living in low bracket communities, in order to give them more opportunities and better perspectives for their lives.
Gol de Letra focus on the concept of integral education, developing programs and projects with activities involving sports, leisure, oral and written communication, culture, arts, physical activities, work and education, besides local development programs.
Based in Vila Albertina, in São Paulo, and in Caju and Barreira do Vasco, in Rio de Janeiro, this Foundation gives assistance to children, teenagers and young people, contributing, viaeducational practices and social assistance activities, to the development of communities and families.
Acknowledged by Unesco in 2001 as an example of assistance to needy children, Gol de Letra won the Itaú-Unicef Award concerning Integral Education in 2013, and it is expanding its work by spreading its social technology to other states and countries.

1998
Founded on December 10, 1998, on the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
1999
Inauguration of the headquarters in Vila Albertina in São Paulo. “Changing the Game” Program began and a community library was open.
2000
The project “The Face of the Village” (current “Youth Program”) starts with art and communication workshops for young people. The first meeting of “Citizenship Goal for the Rights of Women” takes place.
2001
The Project “Village Team” is developed in São Paulo. In Rio de Janeiro State, the Niterói Unit is inaugurated. Unesco recognizes Gol de Letra Foundation as a model institution concerning the support of children in vulnerable social situations.
2002
Gol de Letra establishes an association in France and promotes activities for the interexchange and fundraising program. In Italy, another Association is created to raise money for the programs developed in Brazil.
2003
Gol de Letra Foundation is acknowledged as a public utility entity (Official Gazette, January 31st, 2013) The Social Community Workers Program starts in Niterói.
2004
The first Football Tournament between Company Football teams is organized in São Paulo. The Open Game Program starts, using sports activities as a learning tool for personal growth.
2005
Via a partnership with public schools in the poor neighborhoods, the project entitled Sports Action School begins in São Paulo and the Two Touches at School starts in Niterói. The mediators´ training program is expanded to include young monitors that work together with educators in the Turning the Game Program.
2006
The new program Open Game – Caju is inaugurated, increasing the activities in Rio de Janeiro.
2007
The new project entitled Messengers of Water begins, an environmental education activity in Caju.
2008
Actitivies in Niterói are closed. An employability program is added to the Youth Program in São Paulo.
2009
Studies for dissemination of social-educational practices and a pilot project begin in Goias State.
2010
The Work Goal Program is created to provide vocational training for young people in Caju. The tenth anniversary of Gol de Letra Foundation is celebrated with two events in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, besides an Exhibition and the launching of a book telling the history of the institution.
2011
The codification of Changing the Game Program begins. The institutional development department receives investment for a new site including social media. Completion of the curriculum of the new technical course in Sports and Physical Activity, developed in partnership with São Paulo State´s government.
2012
The “Dissemination Project” is developed in poor areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador and Porto Alegre as part of the “Social Ginga” Project, in partnership with Adidas. Launching of the book entitled “Changing the Game – an experience of Gol de Letra in integral education”, relates our practices in integral education programs. The first technical course to educate sports monitors is launched in partnership with Centro Paulo Souza. Celebration of the 10th anniversary of the interexchange program with the French organization “Sports Dans La Ville”. The founder Raí de Oliveira receives the Laureus “Sports for Good”, (known as the Oscar regarding Sports) for his work in Gol de Letra Foundation.
2013
Turning the Game Program gets the Itaú-Unicef Award for Integral Education. The Gol de Letra Tournament celebrates its 10th edition in São Paulo and its 7th edition in Rio de Janeiro. The first Internal Forum for Sports and Integral Education takes place. The Open Game Program receives the certification of Social Technology from Banco do Brasil Foundation.
2014
The Open Game Program in Barreira do Vasco begins. The construction of the gymnasium in Caju (Rio de Janeiro)also starts. A new publication “Experiences with Sports and Physical Education” is published. The technical cooperation Brazil-Africa Project is restarted and the new Educational Center “Amizade São Paulo” is inaugurated in Guinea-Bissau, Africa. It will offer full time education to 200 children in 2015, using the methodology of Gol de Letra Foundation.
2015
Social Agents´ Educational Project (SP) receives the Social Technology Certificate of Banco do Brasil Foundation, Women category. The Changing the Game Program completes its 16th year of direct assistance, its methodology being used as the base for the implementation of the first integral education public school in Vila Albertina, in partnership with São Paulo State´s Government, starting in 2016. New administrative head-office in São Paulo. The strengthening of the actions in the public schools of the region.
