OPEN GAME PROGRAM CAJÚ

Sports practices, integral education, strengthening of local sports and leisure culture. This is the Open Game Program, which started in 2015 with children, teenagers and young people of Caju, a district in Rio de Janeiro´s port zone, a region with one the lowest HDI of the City.

The practiced sports modalities are: futsal, judo, table tennis and rhythmic gymnastics. We got some reports among the 270 assisted children and teenagers, from 6 to 17 years old. They tell about the effect of sports in their lives. “It was my first presentation in public, with many people looking at me. I was nervous, afraid of failure, but in the end, everything was alright. I was very happy for the compliments. I want to take part in other tournaments” affirms Manuela de Souza, 10 years old, participant of Rhythmic Gymnastics.

“I am very happy to take part in the Judo Tournament, I trained a lot to do my first participation. I did not expect to have this opportunity. Everything was alright”, points out Mateus Lopes,13 years old.

The pedagogical, administrative and social areas implemented their work processes, and in the first year of Open Game Caju, 98% of the vacant places were filled. The internal festivals, the sports hiking, the Community Action and the participation in external events were part of the Program´s agenda; they represented more than sports practice, they were strategies to promote social inclusion and interaction.

The strong network of partners added value in terms of social assistance and trust in the Community.

“It is very good to be here. Thanks to Judo I learned how to control myself and be less nervous. I practice it since I was 10, and in Gol de Letra I learned a lot more. I like the training sections, mainly to learn new things and new kicks”.

Leandra Evellyn Manu da Silva,14years of age, Judo team.

“The Project is very good for my daughters, they have entertainment and integration with the colleagues. The Community Action was an excellent initiative, as they learn the same things and are closer to each other, practicing the same sports. Gabriela, more restless, practices Judo, Rafaela prefers Rhythmic Gymnastics, as she is quieter and shy. They asked our permission to take part in the Project, that is why we enrolled them, and we always try to be close to them”.
