Conquering a new job is a goal of victory to many young people as well as to adults. Focused on the preparation of the inhabitants of Caju, a district in Rio de Janeiro´s seaport region, and its neighborhood for the professional market, the Work Goal Project has initiated an educational and professionalizing course to 130 persons (youth and adults, from 16 to 45 years of age).
Gol de Letra Foundation believes that the ingress in the labor Market leads to social, economic and cultural changes, it represents a path to full citizenship, better qualifications and new posts.
In 2016, the Work Goal Project recorded the increase of participants attendance, which reached the total of 85%. The approval percentage had a 10% increase (reaching the 80% mark). Despite the country´s political-economic crisis, the end of the year mark indicated that 56% of the participants had their ingress in the labor market.
2016 also presented improvements in the Project, which counted on support classes, guaranteeing the increase of 30% in the total of class hours of Portuguese, Mathematics and Informatics. The educational program included two technical visits to partner companies and a cultural tour for integration and confraternization.
The results of this Project over its six years of existence, which counts on the strong interest from the part of the participants in being educated for the labor sector, as well as on the Institution´s commitment to strengthen the dedication to Caju´s youth, generated a more complete program with more diversified courses to assist this public. Therefore, from 2017 onwards, this Program is now entitled “Youth and Opportunity Program” (Programa Juventude e Oportunidade), with 7 technical courses, the Fundamental II Course, and Selective Exam-prep Course (ENEM).
Youth and Opportunity
In August 2016 Fundação Gol de Letra finished a big remodelling of its installations in Rio de Janeiro´s Unit and inaugurated a building, the Ásia 1, where the Caju Professional Education Center is located. The technical and formal education courses of the Youth and Opportunity Program started to take place, representing a landmark for both the Foundation and the Community. Computing Operator was the first course of the Program, with 160 class hours and 50 enrolled students. These facilities also included a community library (Biblioteca Comunitária Carlos Ghosn), with 6 thousand titles for borrowing and consultation; a public space dedicated to studies, networking and internet facilities.
